Monthly Mindfulness: What’s Coming in October

Fall is the season for fresh starts, making it the perfect time to take a pause and reflect on your emotional health. This month, check out eMLife’s live programs touching on everything from exploring the emotions behind addiction, to recognizing and overcoming feeling stuck, to applying mindfulness to help with your weight goals, and learning to sit mindfully with overwhelming emotions.

October 10 is World Mental Health Day, making this the perfect month to take a pause and reflect on your emotional health.

This month, eM Life’s live programs explore the theme of Happiness in the Workplace. With so many waking hours spent at work, you’re bound to face stressors—no matter what your job may be. Mindfulness practice is a simple, effective way to not only relieve stress in the workplace but also find greater happiness and fulfillment. By cultivating awareness and being present, you can enhance your ability to respond to challenges skillfully, improve performance, and experience more joy in your daily work.

Stress less, perform better, and discover happiness at work with these mindfulness practices:

One Thing at a Time – How might focusing on one thing at a time increase your happiness? October 7 – Are you familiar with the mid-day slump? Taking a few minutes to meditate can help rest your mind and body so that you feel refreshed for your day.

Cultivating Creativity – Can tapping into creativity boost your happiness? October 8 – Creativity pulls us into the present. It’s also connected to the experience of being completely absorbed in an activity and may offer some of the same positive, attention-focused benefits.

Don’t Postpone It – How could mindfulness help you break the procrastination habit? October 9 – We all procrastinate at times, but chronic procrastination affects not only productivity. It can also lead to stress, unhealthy behaviors, depression, anxiety, and even cardiovascular disease.

Renewal Reminder – What helps you thrive? October 10 – Rather than looking to the weekends for rest and renewal, learn how you can thrive by bringing moments of renewal into every day.

Forget About It! – Is ruminating eroding your happiness? October 11Rumination is the tendency of the mind to dwell on the negative, a pattern that detracts from happiness. When we ruminate, we ‘fuel’ negative emotions. Rumination is linked to anxiety and depression and can cause strain in relationships.

Bringing Calm and Focus to Overwhelming Situations – October 10 & October 29

Our lives can be chaotic, even on the good days. Despite our best intentions, overwhelming situations can lead us to ineffective coping behaviors. In this webinar, we will explore individual stress factors and ways that we can stay with the intensity of feelings that come up during overwhelming situations, by learning to recognize and sit with them, rather than

reacting on automatic pilot or needing to get rid of these feelings. Join us for this one-hour live session with mindfulness experts Cindy Gittleman on October 10 at 12:00 PM EST or Jim Austin on October 29 at 3:00 PM EST.
